Altes Rathaus St. Goarshausen
Burgstraße 7, 56346 Sankt Goarshausen
The Old Town Hall is the heart of the old town of St. Goarshausen and dates back to the year 1532. The building is therefore over 400 years old today. Until 1847, it served as a town hall and school building, after which it went into private ownership. Following appropriate renovations, three residential houses emerged from it, which still exist today under the numbers Große Burgstraße 41, 42, and 43.
Particularly noteworthy is an old elongated stone tablet. Next to the year 1532, it contains a Hebrew and Greek inscription in late medieval script. The characters express the year 1532 represented in Hebrew and Greek letters. Similar to Roman numerals, each letter here represents a numeral, except that the Hebrew script must be read from right to left. Thus, it forms a triple repetition of the number 1532, the founding year of the house.
Today, the old town hall serves as an external office of the registry office and is an official wedding room. Furthermore, it can be used for private celebrations such as Christmas parties, birthdays, and company festivities. The Old Town Hall offers a space in the entrance area, in a cozy atmosphere, for presentations, exhibitions, or as a champagne reception area for celebrations.
The wedding room is located on the upper floor, nestled in a niche, in the hall of the Old Town Hall. The hall accommodates about 40 people and is equipped with enough tables and chairs. The adjacent kitchen has enough place settings, including cutlery.
The Old Town Hall is managed by the citizens' initiative Altstadt.
